Equinox Ceremony

A Personal Working Based on Liber THROA and the Vo of OTO

"Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law."

Liber THROA is the basis for the Neophyte ritual as used in the A. . . A. . . Its "do it at home" version is the much touted Liber Pyramidos. This ceremony is also the basis for much of the A. . . A. . . work in other grades as well. Notably, THROA contains the formula for the Equinox Ceremony.

Now slavish imitation of ritual is not something that a true Magician advocates. In fact, true Magicians shun cheap repetition. Ergo, I elected to remove elements from THROA and the Vo of the OTO and combine them to write my own ritual.

Declaration of the Equinox
Facing East, Drawn in Deep Thy Breath. Release it and bellow:

"Abrogate are all Rituals, all words and Signs; Ra-Hoor-Khuit hath taken His seat in the East at the at the Equinox of the Gods!"

 
The Qabbalistic Cross
Form the Qabbalistic Cross from the Star Ruby.

Touching Forehead: "SOI"
Touching the Genitals: "O PHALLE" ("O KTEIS" for you lady magicians.)
Touching the Right Shoulder: "ISHKUROUS"
Touching the Left Shoulder: "EUCHARISTOS"
Clasping the Hands Over the Heart: "IAO"

The Formulation of the Pentagrams
(All motions about the circle are Deosil in this Ritual)

Pivot to the West. Trace the Invoking Pentagram of Water. Make the Sign of Attack and Vibrate: "HADES" Withdraw to the Sign of Defense.

Moving to the North, trace the Invoking Pentagram of Earth. Make the Sign of Attack and Vibrate: "DEMETER" Withdraw in the Sign of Defense.

Moving to the East, trace the Invoking Pentagram of Air. Make the Sign of Attack and Vibrate: "HERMES" Withdraw to the Sign of Defense.Moving to the South, trace the Invoking Pentagram of Fire. Make the Sign of Attack and Vibrate: "IACCHUS" Withdraw to the Sign of Defence.

Returning to the West, pause for a moment to project into this Quarter an image of yourself.

Utterance of the Word of a Neophyte of A. . . A. . .
Return to the Center of the Circle and Face East. Vibrate the word: "MUAUM"

Analysis of the Key Word
Within the Center, begin the analysis:

Making the Sign of Osiris Slain say, "The Sign of Orus."
Making the Sign of Isis Mourning say, "The Sign of the Dance of Asi."
Making the Sign of Apophis & Typhon say, "The Sign of the Joy of Iacchus."
Making the Sign of Osiris Risen say, "The Sign of the Blazing Star."
Make the Sign of Osiris Slain and then make the N.O.X. signs. Say, "L.V.X. Lux the Light of the True Cross."

[Note: This effectively renames the old signs, "Osiris Slain, Isis Mourning, etc." and gives them new names under the New Aeon. However, as most people are more familiar with the old names of the signs, they are used here to prevent confusion.]

The Consumption of the Sacrament
If you Will to use a Sacrament, it is consumed now. Else, a ritual breathing exercise (the vitalized four-fold breath) may be undertaken.

An Analysis of the Ritual

The first part, the "Declaration of the Equinox" reminds the Candidate that life is ever changing. Everyday is an "Equinox of the Gods" if you Will your own evolution.

The second part uses a familiar formula to raise energy. This empowers the magician and stabilizes the Tree of Life within his aura. It also identifies the Magician with "IAO" who, according to the Vo of OTO, is who he is at his deepest level.

The third part of the Ritual uses the Pentagrams and elemental attributions of the LBRP. This is because this portion of the Rite occurs below the Veil of Paroketh. It commences in the West for a year is coming to an end.

HADES is invoked in the West and ascribed to water due to his relationship to the Destroyer deities, most notably Apophis and Sebek. This effectively begins the ritual with destruction in mind. Out with the old, in with the new.

DEMETER is invoked in the North and ascribed to Earth due to her vegetative nature. She is the Earth Mother and to Her we turn to provide stability.

HERMES is invoked in the South and ascribed to Air due to his airy / mercurial nature. Hermes is the Egyptian Thoth and governs all Hermetic Works.

IACCHUS is invoked in the South and ascribed to Fire due to his being the "Father" figure in the Analysis of the Key Word. He is a solar-phallic deity.

An image of the magician is projected into the West as a means of shedding the old personality in favor of beginning anew. For elaboration on this concept, please consult the album, "Undertow."

The word MUAUM, being the Word of a Neophyte of the A. . . A. . . is vibrated next to balance the forces. This word also raises the Magician to the Sphere of Tiphareth.

The Analysis of the Key Word invokes the Divine Light and causes it to descend. This Analysis is first shown to member of the Prince Rose Croix degree of the O.T.O. It is given here in an abbreviated form, useful for daily practice.

Daily, regular practice of the Analysis of the Key Word will open the Higher Mysteries of the OTO to the ardent aspirant! No initiation need be given to obtain the Grade of Perfection!

With the final NOX sign (Isis Rejoicing) a New Life is Born. This New Life is the New Year or, rather, the New Magician facing the New Year. A Sacrament is consumed at this point to integrate the energies raised into the Magician. For this sacrament, I suggest the Cakes of Light. If you do not have Cakes of Light, you may use any of the methods essential for the "Worship of Hadit." If you do not wish to use a sacrament, the Sacrament of the Energized Breath should be employed.

The Qabbalistic Cross is again performed to ground the energies thus raised and to re-imprint the Tree of Life in the Sphere of the Magician.

The Equinox is once again declared.

Now this ritual is divided into eight parts. Eight is the number of the sphere of Hod, being the Sphere of Mercury who is Hermes or Tahuti, the Master of Magick. Eight are the letters in the Divine Name "BAPHOMET." The sum of the first eight natural numbers is "36" which is the number of the Holy Hexagram. (6 x 6 = 36 è The Sun of the Sun or "The Son of the Sun" hence the Holy Guardian Angel.)

Celebration of the Equinox. Performed Ritual of my own design based on God-Names from THROA and Analysis of Key Word of S.P.R.C. degree of OTO.

Immediate effects were those of a balanced invocation. Very noticeable activity in the region of the Ajna Chakra. Intense desire to avoid electric lights and (most especially) Television afterwards. A feeling of peace but also empowerment. Ritual may be adapted to other purposes.
